VATA DOSHA
ETHER + AIR
Art by Teil Duncan
Vata is made of air + ether elements. Air is the burst of activity that sets up the ripple, ether is the space in between. Together they dance like the wind.

WHAT IS VATA?
The air element is (of course) gases that are transferred through respiration or produced by digestion. But it is also ions - the charged or unbound elements - that establish polarity. Polarity drives the conversion of potential to kinetic energy, giving your body movement at every level. These ions are called electrolytes when dissolved - electricity embodied!
Ether, the other Vata element, is that non-physical x-factor that bears no weight; the product of your ideology, history or social circumstance that transcends time and dimension.
YOU GOT SOME EXCESS VATA?
That means you have a high rate of ion exchange; in other words you are energetically supercharged. The ions released include calcium, the powerhouse of muscle contraction, as well a high level of sodium and potassium exchange. These guys underpin nerve impulse transmission. The electrical current in your system keeps you light, mobile and bouncy. No day (or hour) is ever the same for you. But you're also prone to electrolyte imbalance and depletion. This equates to muscle weakness and nervous system fatigue.
